Bachtale Apsa

The band Bachtale Apsa, in which translated from the Romani language means Joyful Tears, is one of the leading contemporary Roma pop bands in Czechia. Since 2010, it has played hundreds of concerts at home and abroad, not only in Europe, but also in Algeria and India. Bachtale Apsa is most notable for what is typical of Romani music- the power and diversity of emotions that Romani music has evoked in listeners since time immemorial. The band makes extensive use of the music of the Balkan, Hungarian, Spanish, and Slovak Romani people. Of course, the classic Czardas song form is also included. However, the repertoire consists not only of traditional Romani music, but also original compositions by Mário Bihári and Peter Horvát. Bachtale Apsa's music thus blends Romani melodies with rumba, flamenco, swing, funk, and other styles.

The band is built around the virtuoso accordion playing of blind Romani musician Mário Bihári, who is accompanied by the outstanding guitarist and phenomenal singer Peter Horvát. The other members of the ensemble are experienced musicians who are well established in the Prague music community. The violinist Adam Pospíšil, one of the few "gadžos" (white guys in Romani) has been playing with Roma musicians for a long time. Trumpeter Nicholas Roy Arthofer, a native of Boston, USA, has settled permanently in Prague and plays extensively around Czechia and the USA. Versatile percussionist and drummer Radek Sivák and excellent bassist Michal Sivák are Prague natives and the best in their craft.
