Carlos Mieres & Joe Kučera International Quintet

Carlos Mieres & Joe Kučera International Quintet (known in Germany as Mauer Blues Five) is a remarkable international ensemble of musicians from different parts of the world, united by their openness, spontaneity, and deep musical connection. The group was born quite unexpectedly four years ago during a spontaneous jam session at the Berlin jazz club Schlot, the day after Christmas Eve. Five musicians – some of whom had never played together before – met on stage without any rehearsal. The chemistry was instant, and the band was born. Their music can be described as a distinctive fusion of Latin American rhythms and hard bop, enriched with elements of blues, lyrical ballads, and excursions into modal jazz. While drawing from a variety of genres, the group has developed a unique, unmistakable style and sound. Each member is a strong soloist in their own right, yet they share a deep sense of musical empathy – a quality that lies at the heart of their expressive and dynamic performances.
