"Coming Home"

Time flies, and in 2025 bassist and composer František Uhlíř celebrates his 75th birthday. To mark this milestone, he has released a new original album Coming Home, recorded with his long-standing ensemble František Uhlíř Team + Strings. The music was written especially for the band, founded back in 1987, which continues to interpret both jazz standards in original arrangements and Uhlíř’s own compositions that organically grow out of the jazz tradition. The group’s artistic journey is documented on recordings such as František Uhlíř Team – featuring C. Stötter (1992), the double album Bass Devotion – Basssaga (2010), and Story of My Life – Music for Septet (2020). F.U.T. regularly performs in Prague jazz clubs, at Czech festivals, and across Europe, appearing at prestigious events in countries including Poland, Italy, Switzerland, Slovakia, Spain, Germany, Austria, and Croatia.

On the new album Coming Home, listeners can enjoy fresh compositions written for the current line-up:
Andy Schofield (UK) – alto & soprano saxophones, flute, clarinet;
Standa Mácha – piano; František Uhlíř – double bass; Martin Šulc – drums. 

Some tracks (Coming Home and Children’s Dreams and Games) feature a string quartet, adding a new dimension to the ensemble’s sound. A highlight is the piece I’m Not Finished Yet, arranged for septet by Andy Schofield, with outstanding guest musicians Přemek Tomšíček (trombone), Osian Roberts (UK, tenor saxophone), and Míra Hloucal (trumpet). Other compositions, such as Vendelín and Vida je tu Ida, are lovingly dedicated to the youngest members of the Uhlíř family. The album also includes a special bonus track, Trialogue for violin and jazz string ensemble, dedicated to violin virtuoso Oldřich Vlček and his chamber orchestra Virtuosi di Praga, which premiered in 2005 at Prague’s Rudolfinum.
