Jaromír Honzák Quintet
Double bassist and composer Jaromír Honzák, one of the key figures of the Czech jazz scene and a five-time winner of the Anděl Award for Jazz Album of the Year, will perform once again at Jazz Dock!
"A little boy sitting listening to a Hitachi transistor radio, with the night sky in the background and a rocket flying by."
This scene is an imaginative preview of the new album by double bassist and composer Jaromír Honzák, which has a firm place in our catalogue. The album is a live recording of his eight-part suite entitled "The Blues of a String Hanging in the Wind" performed by the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra and Honzák's permanent "all stars" jazz quintet consisting of David Dorůžka, Luboš Soukup, Vít Křišťan and Martin Novák. It was created in cooperation with Czech Radio as part of the New Horizons concert series, which connects jazz and symphonic music, and thanks to the offer of its curator, pianist and composer Tomáš Sýkora. For this purpose, Honzák decided to expand his existing composition "The Blues of a String Hanging in the Wind" from 2008 and developed it into an eight-part suite of the same name, orchestrated by Tomáš Sýkora.
Jaromír Honzák – b; Luboš Soukup – sax; David Dorůžka – g; Vítek Křišťan – p, keys; Martin Novák – dr.
