Luboš Soukup Quartet - album release concert

After many years of successful activity on the international scene and collaborations with world-class artists, saxophonist and composer Luboš Soukup returns with a purely Czech, multigenerational project. This new formation bridges domestic jazz legends with fierce youth, bringing original music that balances traditional and modern jazz. Tonight, the band will celebrate the release of their new album, Amber Rails!

Luboš Soukup is a saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer straddling Prague and Copenhagen. In Denmark, he received the prestigious Newcomer of the Year award, nominated by Marilyn Mazur (long-time percussionist for Miles Davis). His albums have repeatedly won awards in jazz critics' polls, with his most ambitious work to date being the suite Scandinavian Impressions (2024) for symphony orchestra and jazz ensemble. Jiří Levíček is a graduate of the University of North Texas, bringing the best of the American school of jazz to the Czech scene. In addition to his piano playing, he composes for large orchestras and leads the ensemble Stay in Tune. Jaromír Honzák is a leading Czech double bassist, composer, and one of the most prominent figures on the Czech jazz scene. As a bandleader, he heads his own award-winning ensembles (holding multiple Anděl Awards) and serves as a long-time professor at the Jazz Department of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (HAMU). Jakub Švejnar is a progressive musician performing with groups such as Jungle Debris and Dust in the Groove, among many others. He represents the modern, experimental face of contemporary Czech drumming.
