Petr Beneš Trio

Petr Beneš Trio

Wednesday 18/02/2026 from 20:00

Petr Beneš Trio is an original project led by one of the most distinctive pianists and composers on the Czech jazz scene. Petr Beneš has long been recognized for his clear compositional vision, combining modern jazz language with strong melodic ideas and an open space for improvisation. His compositions were largely developed alongside his studies in jazz performance at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno and the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, forming a coherent personal musical world where intellectual depth meets emotion and spontaneity. A major impulse for establishing his own ensemble came with winning the Jazz Composition of the Year 2011 award, organized by OSA in cooperation with Bohemia JazzFest, for his piece Waiting for Art, which was later released in an orchestral version in collaboration with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. Since then, Petr Beneš has been consistently developing his original repertoire through his own ensembles and recordings. In the current trio line-up, Beneš is joined by outstanding personalities of the Czech jazz scene. Double bassist Jan Kořínek brings a deep knowledge of the jazz tradition combined with experience in classical music, while drummer Ladislav Nič represents one of the most prominent talents of the emerging generation. The trio offers contemporary jazz with a strong authorial voice and a focus on musical storytelling, built on intense interaction, dynamic contrasts, and attentive listening, allowing both the compositions and spontaneous musical dialogue to fully unfold.
