Rez Abbasi/Robert Balzar/Jacob Carl Růžička

Tuesday 17/03/2026 from 20:00

This concert brings an exceptional meeting of world music, jazz, and fusion in the original vision of guitarist Rez Abbasi. The program is built around his original compositions, which naturally combine vivid improvisation, rich colors inspired by diverse cultures, and a strong personal voice. The music is open, dynamic, and shaped through an intense dialogue among three distinctive musicians, each coming from a different musical background—from modern jazz and world music to contemporary production. The result is a stylistically diverse yet coherent sound that feels fresh, surprising, and deeply engaging.

Rez Abbasi is widely regarded as one of today’s leading jazz guitarists. A recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship (2021) and a former DownBeat “Rising Star,” he was born in Karachi, raised in California, and studied in Los Angeles and New York. His musical perspective was further enriched through the study of Indian music with the legendary Ustad Alla Rakha. For more than 25 years, he has been an integral part of the New York jazz scene, collaborating with numerous prominent artists and releasing fourteen albums, largely of original music.

Double bassist Robert Balzar is a key figure on the Czech jazz scene, best known as the leader of the Robert Balzar Trio and as a longtime member of the band J.A.R. He has worked with many international jazz musicians and performed at major festivals both at home and abroad. His playing is marked by musical confidence, depth of experience, and a strong sense of ensemble interaction.

The trio is completed by Jacob Carl Ruzicka (BE4EIGHT), a Czech multi-instrumentalist, producer, and sound engineer whose work spans multiple genres. His approach emphasizes atmosphere, detailed sound design, and a distinctive musical identity, adding another layer to the group’s sound.

Together, they create contemporary, open-minded music that connects different aesthetic worlds without losing its own character—music full of energy, creativity, and attentive musical dialogue.
