Robert Balzar Trio
Leading Czech double bassist Robert Balzar, known for his collaborations with Dan Bárta, J.A.R., and John Abercrombie, is one of the most distinctive figures on the Czech jazz scene. His work is defined by originality and a constant search for new musical directions. Among his notable projects is the exceptional DVD One Day, filmed in co-production with Czech Television in the forests near Polička — a unique recording capturing a full day and night of live performance.
The Robert Balzar Trio has long cultivated its signature contemporary sound, shaped by the cohesion and experience of three accomplished musicians. Their repertoire consists mainly of original compositions and imaginative arrangements of both jazz and non-jazz standards. Their most recent previous albums, Discover Who We Are and Vuja De, were recorded at the legendary Sear Sound Studio in New York with the support of renowned engineer James Farber.
The trio has accompanied international stars such as Raul Midon and Kurt Elling, performed at numerous festivals and concerts across Europe and the United States, and released seven original albums. Balzar also regularly works with acclaimed Czech vocalist Dan Bárta. The trio’s latest release is Conversation, an all-original album recorded at Cavatina Hall in Bielsko-Biała, Poland, in collaboration with esteemed engineer Tadeusz Mieczkowski. The album is also available on LP.
